Thesis Title: Constructing and performing identities : Pasifika theatre
About
I am currently in my final year of my PhD, researching how Pasifika theatre practitioners perform and construct their cultural identities through theatre.
The research provides the first comprehensive history of Pasifika theatre. The study also identifies social, political and artistic objectives in the discourses surrounding of Pasifika theatre.
The study explores the relevant sociocultural context and multiculturalism in New Zealand. The findings relate to post-colonialism, indigenous and diasporic populations.
The research is interdisciplinary, (combining anthropology, performance research and education) and qualitative, (uses interviews and ethnographically informed methods).
